A journey to the tender heart of BBQ culture
- Text by Advertorial
Meat. Fire. Whiskey. All great ingredients on their own, but put them together and you’ve got a primordial feast on your hands.
Munchies’ new series BBQ Road Trip made possible by Jack Daniel’s journeys to the tender heart of barbecue culture, looking at London’s highly competitive scene, before venturing to the motherland of the barbecue: Tennessee, USA. There’ll be a special free screening of the first episode in Shoreditch and a chance to win a trip to Tennessee to see the real deal for yourself.
British weather is notoriously unkind to the outdoor BBQ. Picture rain, charred hunks of what used to resemble meat and dads trying to keep the hope alive – despite wet weather having dashed all hopes of fun. Like families the length and breadth of the country, BBQ culture has retreated indoors. The best barbecue in the land is to be had between bricks and mortar – and London’s BBQ culture is blowing up. The first episode of BBQ Road Trip explores the capital’s thriving scene, where chefs compete to wow diners with the latest new idea or the purest recreation of the traditional BBQ.
Catch a special screening of episode one at Meat Mission in Shoreditch, alongside generous servings of complimentary food, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey and music. Sign up here for the free event on Thursday October 1.
If London is the young pretender, Tennessee is the meat-grilling sensei who, over the years, has seen endless challengers to its crown come and go. In episode two, Munchies leave the new fads behind to meet Tennessee’s craftsman and enthusiasts who are guided by centuries of barbecue tradition. Consider this an education.
If Munchies BBQ Road Trip hasn’t satisfied your craving for the finest flame-grilled meat around, Jack Daniel’s are offering you the chance to experience the real thing for yourself. Enter this competition to win a trip for you and a friend to the 27th annual Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational BBQ in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
